No style muse series would be complete without Twiggy, the 'face' of 1966 and one of my ultimate style icons. I once had cropped hair just like Twiggy's when I was a model for Mahogany, a hairdressers in Mayfair.

  1. Hi, Sarah! I was in my mid teens when Twiggy became all the rage in the fashion modeling world. In a way, Twiggy reminds me of another mid 60s icon, actress- singer- dancer Joey Heatherton who sported a similarly short hairdo, rather unique at the time. If you have any old pictures of yourself with short hair like those women, you should post them for us.

Good night, dear friend Sarah, and have a terrific Tuesday!

  2. Wasn't she just fabulous? She knew how to wear clothes! And wow! What was it like having the cropped hair? There have been multiple occasions over the years where I've been tempted to get the chop to have hair like Twiggy's, or even Edie Sedgwick's, but I can't bring myself to do it after having long hair for so many years. Was it easy to maintain?

    1. Because my hair is curly it was a bit of a pain to maintain as it was hard to straighten the really short bits at the back and the hairdresser did a lot of undercutting. I'd say it would be quite easy to look after if you hair is naturally straight though. I think it would be quite a shock for you to get it all chopped off unless you did it gradually, I had gradually been getting my hair cut shorter and at the time I had a long bob so it wasn't too shocking for me when I had it cropped.

    2. Your advice really makes a lot of sense. Especially about gradually cutting it shorter, I hadn't really thought of that. Thank you! Perhaps that is the way to go. I've been thinking my hair needs a change lately, and I'd like to have it short like that at least once in my young days I think. If I do decide to do it perhaps I'll go for a bob for a little while, and then eventually make the change. Thanks again!

  3. Twiggy! Of course you cant forget her! I had a cropped hair cut for a while too - a sort-of 5 point Vidal Sassoon style like Mary Quant, but i had a swept fringe instead of a blunt one. I had to wash more often and set it so it wasn't wash'n'wear like the original 5 point.

now show us a picture of your short hair! :)

    1. I had a bit of a 5 point cut at one point too. When I had the crop it was more layered than Twiggys, I only had it cut like it because I was modelling for a hair salon - there was a lot of undercutting involved and it took me ages to grow it all out! If I can find a decent pic then I'll post it ;)

  4. With or without the gobs of mascara and other cosmetics, she had (and still has) such incredibly beautiful eyes. They're like doe's and are impossible not to be captivated by.
